Story Notes
On the 30th March 1948, an organisation called the National Music Association was founded. It later changed it's name to the Music Association of Ireland.
It's objectives were to further musical education across Ireland, to improve conditions for musicians and composers and to work for the establishment of a National Concert Hall.
It's aims also were to submit recommendations on musical policy to the relevant authorities, to encourage the establishing of groups, societies and choirs throughout the country and to organise peopular lectures and concerts across the nation.
This documentary, produced in 1973 when the association was celbrating it's 25th anniversary, examines how successful it was in realising these objectives.
In 2007, the name of the association was changed to 'Friends of Classical Music'.
