Story Notes
In this documentary, 4 DJ's introduce the tricks of the DJ trade and take us on a journey into life as a music radio dj. We hear about what it really takes to make it, about working life in the DJ world - we even hear how fashions come and go in the pop broadcasting world.
The four DJ's featured in this documentary are Simon Young, Larry Gogan, Janice Long and Declan Meehan.
Simon Young: Simon Young was a presenter with RTÉ 2fm. He was presented Simon's Choice on Saturday mornings in the late 1980s. Young's other radio shows included The BeatBox and the 2FM Weekend Breakfast Show in the late 1990s. He occassionally 'became' an on-air comedy character known as 'Jimmy'.
Larry Gogan: Larry began life as a DJ on RTÉ Radio 1 and was one of a handful of presenters playing almost exclusively pop music. He was in the original lineup in 1979 of RTÉ Radio 2 (which later became RTÉ 2FM), a station on which he spun the first disc. He has been presenting a regular show there ever since, currently hosting The Golden Hour. He has received many industry awards including a 1986 Jacob's Awards for his weekly show, Ireland's Top Thirty.
Janice Young: Janice joined BBC Radio 1 in 1982 with her own Saturday evening show. From 1984 to 1987 she presented the Monday - Thursday Janice Long show. On television, Long was a regular presenter of the BBC One chart show Top of the Pops from 1982 until 1988. Janice currently works with BBC Radio 2.
