In 1990 Helen Shaw visited Ethiopia.
Whilst there a civil war raged under the dictatorship of Mengistu Haile Mariam**, President of the People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia from 1987 to 1991.
Ethiopia was a very bleak place in 1990 as civil war ravaged the country. A year later, the war was over. But how did the country fare after the fall of dictatorship?
5 years later Helen returns to see how Ethiopia had rise from its legacy of dictatorship.
This is a very personal story of one woman's journey into the unknown - and back again.
** Mengistu fled to Zimbabwe in 1991 at the end of the Ethiopian Civil War. Shortly after, an Ethiopian court found him guilty in absentia of genocide. Despite this, he still lives in asylum in Zimbabwe.
