Story Notes
On the 1st May 1991 - Conor and Shelia Dwyer were reported missing from their home on Chapel Hill in the centre of the town. Conor was 62; his wife was a year younger. Their distinctive white Toyota Cressida was also gone.
They were last seen at a funeral on the 30th April in the nearby St Patrick's church. Shelia later spoke to her sister. That was the last anyone heard of the couple. No trace of the Dwyer's or their car has ever been found.
What really struck residents of Fermoy was that fourteen months earlier - William Fennessy - a 52 year old former Labour election candidate and publican had also disappeared. William Fennessy and his Daihatsu car have never been recovered despite an exhaustive search.
Nearing twenty years on and for the first time ever members of the Dwyer and Fennessy family talk about those fourteen months and the pain and anguish of living without answers.
Sunday, 7th May 2006 marked the 15th anniversary of the disappeance of Sheila and Conor Dwyer. At that time, retired Garda Superintendent Eamon Carey spoke to RTE news about the 15-year mystery of the whereabouts of elderly Fermoy couple, Conor and Sheila Dwyer. Click here to listen
