Story Notes
What happens on a foxhunt and what type of people turn up for a hunt? Frances Shanahan hired a horse and went over the fences in Ballivor, Co Meath with the Tara harriers to see what it's all about.
With the help of Richard Beirne she recorded the proceedings of a hunt from meet to apres hunt.
Her fellow hunters for the day report that they don’t hunt for the kill but for the buzz, the adrenalin surge they claim to get from galloping across the countryside and jumping huge fences at speed.
“Horses just love hunting, they love galloping and passing each other out. Your job is to hang on and try and slow down the horse.”
Narrated and produced by Frances Shanahan
Additional Recording by Richie Beirne
Production supervision by Lorelei Harris
