Story Notes
Brendan Keenan examines the support available to people who would like to set up a business by following the efforts of Harry Lynam as he engages with the Industrial Development Authority to try and get his company Lake Electronics off the ground.
In the documentary, we hear recreations of Harry's meetings with the IDA's enterprise development unit which was set up in 1978 to help people who are looking to set up their own business.
Harry engages with the unit to set up his own company 'Lake Electronics' which he hopes will develop telecommunications equipment for the post office where he once worked as an engineer.
We hear how Harry faced up to the challenge of being his own boss and the motivations behind his desire to head up his own company. This documentary explores the background of Harry's experience in the industry and his efforts in attracting support from the IDA, as well as the impact on Harry's family as he has to sell his house in order to raise share capital for the company.
