Confessions have played a multifaceted and powerful role throughout history in Ireland for centuries. Millions of people have shared their sins across all religions. Although it does not always reveal wrongdoing but they can often benefits the one who is confessing.
The Sacrament of Penance is also known as the 'Sacrament of Reconciliation' or traditionally called 'Confession'. It is the rite by which sins are confessed and forgiven. In Ireland today there has been a collapse in Catholics attending confession.
In 1996 RTE Producer Lorelei Harris investigates the cultural phenomenon of confession in modern Ireland.
