Katie Verling is a documentary-maker and cultural innovator from Limerick. 

Katie has decades of experience in the arts, managing art galleries and venues, developing festivals, producing exhibitions and musical events.  

She was the founding director of Glór - the music and arts venue in Ennis, and worked with many of Ireland’s leading theatre companies, performers, artists and musicians.

The television documentary Raise the Roof, (2003) featured Katie as she went about completing Glór in time for the opening concert.  She has appeared as a guest critic on RTE’s The View with John Kelly.

In 2007 Katie was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Following treatment and a successful bone marrow transplant she recovered; but  since then her involvement with cultural projects has been hampered by poor health.

In 2016 Katie and the artist Sinead Dinneen undertook an ambitious creative project based on their personal experiences of ill health and cancer – this project became Kicking the Bucket, a series of workshops, an exhibition and finally the radio documentary.

Katie is currently developing new arts and health projects to encourage conversations about illness, grief and mortality.   In her spare time she likes to cook, read, and dream up fresh ideas to make the world a better place.
