Telling stories has been at the centre of Orla Bourke’s media career. First as a staff features writer for the Sunday Press newspaper and then as a programme maker with RTE where she made several documentaries and radio series. She also wrote and broadcast many Sunday Miscellanies.
She worked too in current affairs - as a reporter on RTE Radio One’s Today At Five (now Drivetime) and as a researcher on Marian Finucane’s Liveline. She did a two year stint in the newsroom broadcasting It Says In The Papers on Morning Ireland.
Before taking leave of absence to focus on her young family, Orla worked as a Programme Acceptance Viewer in RTE television where previously she had worked as a researcher.
Now that her children are older, Orla is returning to her first love – writing, and has completed a number of writing residencies at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig in County Monaghan.
