Strong winds and heavy rains are set to sweep across the country as Met Éireann issued a nationwide Status Yellow wind and rain warning.

It warned of heavy rainfall, possibly turning wintry in places, accompanied by strong to near gale force and gusty southerly winds.

"This will lead to hazardous driving conditions and localised flooding," according to the service.

This warning comes into effect from 10pm tomorrow until 3pm on Wednesday.

Met Éireann has also issued a separate Status Yellow wind and rain warning for ten counties lasting from 4am until 3pm tomorrow.

Strong to near gale force and gusty southeast to south winds are expected, along with heavy rain.

This warning has been issued for counties Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

It is in place from 4am until 3pm tomorrow.

A Status Orange storm warning has also been issued from Valentia to Slyne Head to Rossan Point from 6am until 1pm tomorrow, with south to southeast winds reaching storm force 10 for a time.
