Man remanded in custody in relation to Galway murder

A man charged with the murder of a woman in Co Galway has been remanded in custody, following a brief court hearing this morning.

Ali Sohrabi, aged 35, of no fixed abode, appeared via video link at the sitting of Galway District Court.

He is being detained at Castlerea Prison, after being charged with the murder of Masumeh Manojan in Clifden.

The body of the mother of two was found on the outskirts of the town last Thursday morning.

There was no objection to the State’s application that the accused be remanded in custody.

Judge Michael Connellan acceded to a request from Garda Sergeant Christy Browne that Mr Sohrabi be further remanded, to appear by video link at Galway District Court, in two weeks time.

The accused did not speak during the hearing, during which exchanges were translated into Persian for his benefit.
