Public urged to avoid Bray Head as gorse fire smoulders

Wicklow County Council has advised the public to avoid Bray Head as the fire service continues work to extinguish a gorse fire in the area.

A spokesperson said in a statement that some areas "continue to smoulder and reignite" after a large fire yesterday.

"The fire crew from Bray are attending, the fire is under control and may continue to smoulder while damping down operations continue.

"The public are advised to avoid the area and not put themselves in danger," the spokesperson said.

Crews from Greystones and Bray, supported by Civil Defence drones, tackled the blaze yesterday.

Wicklow County Council said there have been numerous gorse fires in the county this week during the recent spell of hot weather.

Crews from Bray responded to multiple fires on the Sugarloaf on three occasions.

There were other fires in Greystones, Rathdrum, Aughrim, Baltinglass, Bray and Wicklow Town.
