A man has appeared before a special sitting of Killarney District Court as part of what gardaí said was an ongoing investigation into alleged investment fraud and deception.
20-year-old Noah Jake Woolley with an address at New Road, Belper Amber Valley, Derbyshire, UK was charged with two offences relating to 15 May 2026 at Dunmaniheen, Killorglin.
Gardaí told the court the accused was found with "a substantial amount of cash."
He is charged that he attempted to commit theft, an indictable offence, contrary to Common Law, and he is also charged that he dishonestly by deception induced a named man to withdraw €9,500 in cash from his bank account to give to Mr Woolley with the intention of making a gain.
The alleged offence is contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.
Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution, Garda Eamon Prendiville of Killorglin Garda Station said that when Woolley was charged with the two offences at New Road Killarney on Sunday at 1.43pm he made no reply to the charges.
Gardaí objected to bail.
Judge Elizabeth Healy said there was presumption of innocence and the accused man had no previous convictions here.
She was granting bail on cash lodgement in court of €2,500 and an independent surety of €5,000.
The conditions included that he is to hand over all travel documents and not apply for any others, sign on daily in Killarney Garda Station and stay at an address to be approved by gardaí.
Garda Prendiville also asked that he have no contact with the injured party and he is to stay out of Killorglin. Judge Healy added these to the conditions.
The court heard it was expected the cash of €2,500 would be lodged by tomorrow.
Mr Woolley was remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear in Tralee District Court on Wednesday next.
