More than 100 Gardaí took part in a major cross-border operation this morning targeting an organised crime group suspected of involvement in drug dealing and money laundering offences.

Searches were carried out across Co Donegal, Co Sligo, Co Monaghan and Co Laois, while parallel searches were also conducted in Co Tyrone by the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The operation, led by detectives from the Donegal Division, involved searches at 15 residential properties in east Donegal and Letterkenny, four properties in the Sligo town area, one in Monaghan and one in Laois.

A man in his 30s was arrested in Co Donegal and is being detained at a Garda station in the North Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Gardaí said more than €26,000 in cash and £12,000 (€14,000) were seized during the searches.

Quantities of cocaine, cannabis and tablets with an estimated street value of €40,000 were also recovered, along with mobile phones and other electronic devices.

The searches were supported by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Armed Support Unit, the Garda Dog Unit and detectives from Sligo and Monaghan.

Investigations are continuing.
