The body of a man in his 60s, that has been found at a house in Wexford town, is thought to have lain undiscovered for some time.
The body was removed from the property in the Belvedere Grove housing estate in the Townparks area this afternoon.
A call was made by a concerned neighbour to gardaí at around 1.40pm requesting them to carry out a welfare check at the man's house.
Gardaí along with members of the National Ambulance Service and Wexford County Fire Service attended the scene.
A forensic examination was carried out at the property before the man’s remains were taken to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination.
Sources have said that the man’s remains may have lain undiscovered for quite some time.
However, it is understood that foul play is not currently suspected.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the man’s body.
They said the results of the post-mortem examination will determine the course of the garda investigation.
The spokesperson added that the local coroner has been notified and investigations remain ongoing.
