Arrest, seizures in Tipperary cockfighting investigation

Items linked to cockfighting were seized in a separate operation in Tipperary town last week

A man has been arrested and a number of searches carried out in Tipperary town as part of an investigation into illegal cockfighting activities.

Seven roosters, six alive and one deceased, were discovered during searches at a property in the town.

The animals were put into the care of the NSPCA.

Following the multi-agency operation, a man aged in his 40s was arrested.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before Tipperary District Court, sitting in Thurles, at a later date.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing and they are liaising with the Department of Agriculture and other relevant agencies in relation to the matter.

Last week, gardaí seized a number of items linked to cockfighting following a separate search in Tipperary town.

Bird cages, medication, illegal substances and a number of gaffs, which are attached to a rooster's leg before a fight, were recovered.
