The four men (from left to right) Aiden Hulme, 49, of Bellurgan Point, Dundalk, 39 year old Ronan Kelly, of 95 Park View, Newtown Clough, Newry, Brendan Traynor, 36, of 9 Kelly road, Newry and Niall Fegan, 27, of 73 Newtown Road, Camlough, Newry

Four men appeared in court charged in connection with a garda investigation into a break-in at a transport company in Co Cork.

The four men, three of whom come from Newry in Northern Ireland, and one from Dundalk in Co Louth appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court today after they were arrested yesterday in a white BMW on the M8 at Dunkettle.

Three of the men, 49 year old Aiden Hulme, of Bellurgan Point, Dundalk, 39 year old Ronan Kelly, 95 Park View, Newtown Clough, Newry and Niall Fegan, 27, of 73 Newtown Road, Camlough, Newry were all charged with trespass with intent to commit an offence at O'Connell Transport, Tivoli Docks, Cork under Section 11 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994.

They also faced a second charge of the possession of certain articles intended for use in a burglary, under Section 15 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offence) Act 2001.

These articles include balaclavas, torches, ropes, and a reciprocating saw.

The court heard evidence of their arrest, charge and caution following an incident at the premises of O'Connell Transport.

The men made no reply when cautioned.

A fourth man, Brendan Traynor, who is 36, of 9 Kelly road, Newry, and who was the driver of the white BMW car, made no reply when he was arrested, charged and cautioned with having possession of certain articles intended for use in a burglary, under Section 15 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.

The State objected to bail in all four cases on the basis of the seriousness of the charge and because three of the men live outside the State.

Judge Mary Dorgan remanded three of the men Mr Traynor, Mr Kelly and Mr Fegan in custody with consent to bail on strict conditions.

All three are due in court again on 31 March.

Mr Hulme was refused bail and was remanded in custody to appear again in court on 1 April.
