Hundreds attended a protest in Dublin this afternoon against Dublin City Council's proposed rent increases due to come into effect next month.
The protest was organised by Community Action Tenants Union (CATU) and Dublin City Council tenants and was supported by Sinn Féin, People Before Profit and other parties on the left.
Protesters gathered at the Garden of Remembrance at lunchtime and marched to Dublin City Council's HQ at Wood Quay.
Residents of DCC's houses and flats, tenants in the private sector in receipt of housing benefits such as the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) and tenants of approved housing bodies all face increases averaging 30% from the beginning of next month.
