University of Limerick has announced the appointment of RTÉ journalist and presenter Katie Hannon as Adjunct Professor in its Department of Journalism.

Ms Hannon brings over two decades of experience to UL's Journalism and Digital Communication programmes.

Currently a co-host on RTÉ Radio 1's Drivetime, she has hosted programmes including Upfront with Katie Hannon and, previously, Saturday with Katie Hannon and The Late Debate.

Her career includes award-winning investigative work, notably on stories such as the Maurice McCabe Garda whistleblower case and the Women of Honour scandal.

Ms Hannon said she is thrilled to have the opportunity to join the University of Limerick.

"Journalism has never been more important, so sharing my experiences with the next generation of journalists, and hearing from them how we can all navigate the evolving media landscape, will be a real privilege," she said.

Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Dr Sandra Joyce said: "Our adjunct faculty play a crucial role in connecting students with real-world expertise, and we are deeply grateful to Katie for bringing her experience and insight to UL. Her contribution will greatly enrich the learning environment for all our journalism students."

Head of UL's Department of Journalism Dr Fergal Quinn said: "Katie’s exceptional track record in Irish media aligns perfectly with our commitment to preparing the next generation of journalists for a dynamic and challenging industry.

"Her practical experience will inspire and mentor our students as they develop skills across print, broadcast and digital platforms."

UL's Department of Journalism is recognised for its hands-on approach, including projects like the award-winning Limerick Voice.

The programme has a strong tradition of engaging industry professionals as adjunct faculty to bridge academia and practice.
