Man charged after €5m of cocaine seized in Monaghan

A 53-year-old man has appeared in court charged in relation to €5 million drug seizure in Monaghan.

Arunas Racyla, with an address at Highfield in Carrickmacross, appeared before Monaghan District Court this morning.

A detective from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at Carrickmacross Garda Station yesterday.

Mr Racyla was charged with possession of cocaine at Ballyloughan, Carrickmacross on 13 March, contrary to Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

He was also charged with possession of a controlled drug, namely cocaine, for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying it to another, under Section 15 of the same Act.

There was no application for bail and Judge Raymond Finnegan remanded Mr Racyla in custody to appear again by video link on 23 March for directions of the DPP.

Gardaí previously said that suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €5.25m was seized following the intervention of a number of vehicles and the search of a business premises in Monaghan on Friday 13 March.
