A man in his 30s has been seriously injured in an assault in Naas, Co Kildare.
He was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment.
The incident happened shortly after 2.45am on North Main Street.
The scene has ben preserved for technical examination.
A man in his 20s was arrested for public order offences and has since been released.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
They are specifically calling on those who may have footage, including dash-cam, and were in the area between 2.20am and 3am to make it available to investigating gardaí.
