Visiting restrictions at UHG due to Norovirus outbreak

Infection control procedures are in place on the wards and will remain until further notice

University Hospital Galway is appealing to the public not to visit if they have symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting to help keep vulnerable patients safe.

The hospital is dealing with an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug, Norovirus, which is impacting St Mary's ward and St Teresa’s ward with other wards under observation.

Visiting is restricted to compassionate grounds only and with prior arrangements made in advance with ward managers.

Those given access are requested to cooperate with hospital staff to ensure restrictions are adhered to.

They are advised that they must use the alcohol hand gels supplied as they enter and leave the hospital.

Infection control procedures are in place on the wards and will remain until further notice.

"We would ask that anyone with symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting not to visit the hospital to help keep vulnerable patients safe.

"These measures are vital to avoid spreading the virus to patients, visitors and staff and the hospital would like to thank the public for their co-operation at this time," the hospital said in a statement.
