Police investigating the disappearance and murder of a Co Down woman more than 20 years ago have made an arrest.

25-year-old Lisa Dorrian was last seen in Ballyhalbert on the Ards Peninsula in February 2005.

Police believe she was murdered on the night of 27 February 2005 or in the early hours of the following morning.

Detectives today said they had arrested a 40-year-old woman in connection with the inquiry.

She was detained in Bangor and is being questioned on suspicion of murder and assisting offenders, withholding information and preventing a lawful burial.

"This arrest comes just days before the 21st anniversary of Lisa's disappearance and murder," said Detective Chief Inspector Kerrie Foreman.

"We remain determined to provide justice for Lisa's family and I would appeal to anyone with information about her disappearance and murder to contact detectives."
