Irish Guide Dogs named as Cork's parade Grand Marshall

The Irish Guide Dogs charity has been announced as the Grand Marshal for Cork City's annual St Patrick's Day Parade.

The Cork-based national charity has provided more than 2,000 guide, assistance and community dogs to children and adults over the past 50 years.

The theme for this year's parade is 'Marsh, Myth and Magic' inspired by the city's origins on marshlands.

Last year's Cork parade theme was 'Building a Better World

Now the centrepiece of a 5-day festival, the parade will feature over 3,000 participants, Irish and international marching bands, and street theatre groups.

Taking place on Tuesday, 17 March at 1pm, it will follow its traditional route along the South Mall, past the viewing stand on St Patrick Street, to Merchant's Quay.
