A woman was hospitalised after a dog attack in Sligo last Friday.

Gardaí said they received a report of a woman being bitten by a dog at St Joseph's Terrace in Sligo town at approximately 4.30pm on 13 February.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured woman was subsequently transported to Sligo University Hospital for medical treatment.

The extent of the woman’s injuries has not been disclosed.

In a separate incident last Sunday, gardaí removed 11 dogs of varying ages from a property in Sligo town that have since been placed in the care of the Dog Warden.

Gardaí in Sligo, assisted by the local Dog Warden, carried out the planned search of a residential property in Sligo town, under the Control of Dogs Act 1986.

No injuries to any garda members or members of the public were reported during the operation, in which a member of the Garda Armed Support Unit was attacked by a dog.

An official firearm was discharged and the animal was wounded.

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

In a statement, Sligo County Council confirmed its Dog Warden attended a residence in Sligo on Sunday 15 February, on foot of a request from An Garda Síochána.
