Woman arrested after €1.7m worth of drugs seized in Carlow

A woman has been arrested following the seizure of drugs worth an estimated €1.7 million in Carlow.

Carlow Drugs Unit stopped and searched a car in the town yesterday and recovered suspected heroin and cannabis with an estimated street value of more than €136,000.

In a follow-up search that was carried out at a house in the town, 12kg of suspected heroin with an estimated street value of €1.68 million, cannabis herb and resin with a value of almost €50,000, and alprazolam and zopiclone tablets were seized.

A woman, aged in her 30s, has been arrested and is currently being detained at a garda station in the eastern region under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.

Gardaí said that all seized items will be submitted to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

They added that investigations are ongoing.
