A public meeting in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, has heard calls for a flood relief plan for the town to be agreed and fast-tracked, and for interim flood relief measures to be taken immediately.
Around 50 people attended the meeting, at the IFA Centre in Enniscorthy.
Dozens of home and businesses in Enniscorthy have been flooded over the past fortnight.
The home of Susan Byrne's mother, Betty, on Island Road was one of those flooded.
"I would like a few answers," Ms Byrne replied when asked why she was attending tonight's public meeting.
"I would like to know when they are going to start, because Island Road is phase three and phase one hasn't even started, hasn't even gone for planning and, like, how long more is it going to take."
Island Road resident Maureen Peare said she was trying not to get depressed about her home being flooded again.
"They come and they have all the sympathy in the world, but it's not sympathy we want its flood barriers we want," she told RTÉ News.
"All the sympathy in the world isn't going to help us."
John Leacy has been running L and M Motors on Island Road for 40 years.
He estimated that he suffered between €50,000 and €100,000 worth of damage in the floods over the last fortnight.
"I suppose it's just to get our voices heard," he said, as he arrived for tonight's meeting, adding: "and to put a push on to make sure that there is something done going forward."
He said: "Number one, there has to be an early warning system to alert people that things are happening and for help to be there for the older residents of Island Road."
A spokesperson for Wexford County Council said a marine area consent (a forerunner to a planning application) will be sought for phase one of the Enniscorthy flood relief scheme in the coming weeks.
In a statement, the council added: "Wexford County Council has begun implementation of interim flood alleviation works in Enniscorthy town centre, including the use of aqua dams which will be mobilised in times of high alert."
It added that the full suite of interim works will be presented to the elected members at a special meeting of the council on Monday, with submission to Minister for the Office of Public Works Kevin Boxer Moran "as soon as possible thereafter and within the agreed timeframe for response".
