A woman who died in a house fire in Limerick city yesterday evening has been named locally as Marguerite (Marge) Neville.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at a house in Chesterfield Downs, Singland on Saturday.

Four units of Limerick Fire Service attended the scene at around 5.30pm, but it is understood the blaze had taken hold.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination was carried out.

The outcome will determine the course of the garda investigation, though foul play is not suspected.

It is understood Ms Neville had recently retired from Dunnes Stores in the Parkway Shopping Centre.
