A suspect device was discovered in the Royal Canal at Newcomen Bridge, Dublin 3, at 12.30pm this afternoon.
Gardaí were alerted, and a cordon was established.
The Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene.
The EOD team removed the suspect device. The area was declared safe, and the cordon has since been lifted.
In a statement, the Defence Forces said: This afternoon, bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána in relation to a suspicious device found in the Dublin 3 area.
"Following an assessment by the EOD team, two devices were removed from the scene for analysis and the scene was handed over to AGS. This operation has now concluded. Time of call-out was 1330hrs and time off scene was 1600hrs."
Investigations are ongoing.
