A man charged with an assault, which resulted in the death of another man in Co Roscommon last week, has been released on bail.
Yevhen Shutko, 46, has been charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Jordon Nevin, in Ballaghaderreen, on 1 January.
Mr Nevin died last weekend, after sustaining serious injuries in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Mr Shutko, with an address in Loughglynn, Co Roscommon, was before Ballaghaderreen District Court today, having been remanded in custody at an earlier hearing.
Garda Sergeant Mark Mahon told the court that he was awaiting direction from the DPP but that, for the moment, there was just one charge against the accused. He said the State was still opposed to bail.
Judge James Faughnan said Mr Shutko had been remanded in custody last Sunday out of an abundance of caution, but that he would accede to a bail application at this time, in the absence of further directions from the office of the DPP.
A total of €3,000; comprising an independent surety of €1,500, and a separate bail payment of €1,500; was furnished to the court.
Judge Faughnan noted that the 46-year-old had surrendered his passport, as well as his birth certificate, to ensure he could not apply for any replacement travel documentation.
He has been remanded on bail to next month’s sitting of Ballaghaderreen District Court.
