Another hospital in the midlands is experiencing increasing numbers of people requiring admission.

Yesterday, Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore opened additional beds to deal with increased capacity.

In a statement today, Regional Hospital Mullingar said the hospital was experiencing increasing numbers.

Patients with non-emergency conditions are being urged to seek assistance elsewhere.

The hospital said patients who are not in need or urgent attention are being asked, where possible, to consult with their pharmacist, GP or out-of-hours GP service.

The hospital said patients presenting at the emergency department with non-urgent conditions are experiencing very long waiting times.

Visiting restrictions are also in place at the hospital due to the high number of respiratory infections circulating in the community.

The hospital apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their support and understanding.
