A Status Yellow thunderstorm warning which was in effect for Galway and Kerry has expired.
Met Éireann said drier conditions will develop through the afternoon, with brighter spells in the west.
However, more rain is forecast overnight as scattered showers track eastwards, some heavy with a chance of rain.
Met Éireann said the weather will remain unsettled for the rest of the week, but the indications are that more settled, drier and cooler conditions are expected in the run up to Christmas.
