Shannonwatch has been nominated for the 2025 Tipperary International Peace Award, which recognises outstanding contributions to peace, justice and humanity.

The group which campaigns against the US military use of Shannon Airport is among the nominees on the shortlist for the peace prize.

Other nominees include human rights lawyer Blinne Nessa Áine Ní Ghrálaigh who participated in South Africa's genocide case against Israel, and Fr Brendan Meagher, a Redemptorist priest from Tipperary, who works amongst the poor in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Secretary of the Tipperary Peace Convention, Martin Quinn, revealed the nominees from across the world for their "inspiring work in advancing peace and human dignity".

UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese, Serbian sociologist Sonja Licht, photojournalist Giles Duley, and American political activist Jody Williams - who previously won the Nobel Peace Prize - have also been nominated.

The award, which was first presented in 1984 as a local initiative to highlight peace efforts and counter the association of Tipperary with war, celebrates individuals and organisations whose lifework embodies compassion, courage, and the relentless pursuit of justice.

Over its history, the award has honoured global figures and movements that have shaped the course of peacebuilding across continents.

The Selection Committee will begin its deliberations as to the 2025 recipient, which will be announced in the New Year, with the presentation scheduled for a celebration in Co Tipperary.

The Tipperary Peace Convention thanked those who submitted nominations.

"Each nominee testifies to the power of individual and collective action in building a more just and peaceful world," it said in a statement.
