The Rotary Club in Cork has launched its annual Christmas Tree of Remembrance campaign.

It's a fundraiser for local charities, which has already contributed more than €1.5 million to them, and has been running for more than 20 years.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin attended the launch of the tree of remembrance on Patrick Street this afternoon.

People are encouraged to write messages remembering loved ones on yellow ribbons, which are hoisted onto the tree by Rotary Club volunteers.

Benefiting charities include Marymount University Hospital and Hospice, Cork Arc Cancer Support House, St Luke's Charity and Home in Cork and the Westgate Foundation.
