Updated visitor arrangements have been put in place at Wexford General Hospital due to the continued increase in flu cases in the community.

HSE Dublin and South East has announced that just one visitor per patient will now be allowed during visiting times at the hospital.

All visitors are also asked to wear surgical masks, which will be provided at the hospital.

The HSE has said that visiting times at the hospital will be strictly enforced.

However, a spokesperson has said that visiting on compassionate grounds and in particular circumstances to support patients can be arranged directly through the nurse in charge on the respective ward.

The HSE is also asking anyone with a cough, sore throat, fever, runny or blocked nose, shortness of breath, fatigue, aches and pains, or gastrointestinal symptoms not to visit the hospital.

Meanwhile, due to the increase in flu cases in the community and at St Luke's General Hospital, Carlow/Kilkenny, HSE Dublin and South East is also appealing to anyone with flu symptoms not to visit the hospital.

Anyone who must attend either hospital is asked to minimise their risk of catching or spreading an infection by taking a number of measures.

The measures include wearing a mask, washing hands regularly with alcohol hand gel, and not visiting the hospital until all symptoms are fully resolved for at least 48 hours.
