Warning of difficult driving conditions as weather alerts issued

Status Yellow rain and wind warnings have been issued for a number of counties around the country today.

A wind warning for counties Dublin, Louth, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow came into effect at 11am and will remain in place until 5pm.

Met Éireann said there will be strong to gale force and gusty southeasterly winds.

It said travelling conditions may be difficult and that debris or loose objects may be displaced by the winds.

Seperately, counties Cork and Kerry are under a rain warning until 9am tomorrow.

The forecaster said there will be rainfall accumulations from heavy showers or longer spells of rain.

It warned that localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions are a possibility for the affected counties.

The UK Met Office issued a Status Yellow wind warning for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.

That warning comes into effect at 12pm and will expire at 7pm.

The UK Met Office said a spell of strong and gusty winds will bring potential disruption to transport and infrastructure.

Met Éireann is forecasting that rain will extend northeastwards across the country during the day, turning heavy in places later.

It added that southeasterly winds will become strong and gusty with gales at times on south and east coasts.

Rain will gradually clear to bright intervals and scattered showers and winds will moderate. Temperatures will range from 6C in the north to 12C in the south.
