Woman critical after being set on fire at Dublin house

Gardaí are investigating an attack on a house in Clondalkin in Dublin, during which a woman was set on fire.

A man was also injured during the attack which took place just after 10am this morning.

Dublin Fire Brigade was called to the scene and the woman was treated by paramedics before she was taken to Tallaght hospital.

Her condition is described as critical.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination.

This attack took place at a house in Oak Downs, a large, quiet, settled residential area off the Boot Road in Clondalkin.

A woman answered a knock on the door and an accelerant, which appears to have been petrol, was sprayed on her and set alight.

The woman sustained severe burn injuries to her face and body.

There were a number of other people in the house at the time.

The emergency services, gardaí and fire brigade were called.

The fire was extinguished and paramedics treated the seriously injured woman at the scene.

She was brought to Tallaght University Hospital, where her condition is described as critical. Gardaí are also at the hospital with her.

The scene at Oak Downs has been sealed off as a crime scene, and gardaí are carrying out a forensic examination.

A garda source described this as a horrific and frightening attack.

They believe the attack was targeted and deliberate, and suspect it could be drugs related.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established In Clondalkin Garda Station.

Gardaí are asking for anyone who was in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin between 9.30am and 10.20am this morning and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
