Motorcyclist, 50s, dies following collision in Limerick

A motorcyclist in his 50s has died following a road collision in Co Limerick.

The collision, involving a motorcycle and a car, occurred at 4pm on the R519 at Ballykevin, near Kilmeedy.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to University Hospital Limerick.

The driver of the car, a woman, was assessed by emergency services at the scene and did not require immediate hospital treatment.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses, particularly anyone with camera footage (including dash-cam), to contact Newcastlewest Garda Station on 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

The man's death comes on the same weekend that five young people died and three others were injured in a road crash in Dundalk, Co Louth.

It brings to 158 the number of people who have died on Irish roads this year.
