A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with an alleged assault on two women who were canvassing for Catherine Connolly in north Dublin on Friday evening.
The alleged incident occurred on the North Strand Road shortly before 4pm.
The man is expected to appear before the courts tomorrow morning.
The alleged assault occurred as Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald joined the canvass, a spokesperson for the party said.
The women did not require medical treatment at the scene, but gardaí said they understand one of the women had since attended the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for further assessment.
