Police say the death of a woman in Belfast yesterday is not being treated as murder at this stage.

Mary McAdorey, who was in her 20s, was found dead in her home at Old Mill Drive in the Longlands area of Newtownabbey yesterday afternoon.

A 40-year-old man was arrested last night on suspicion of murder.

This evening, police said the man had been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The PSNI said that following a post mortem examination Ms McAdorey's death was not being treated as murder at present.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Phillips, from the Major Investigation Team, said:

"My thoughts are, first and foremost, with the woman’s family who are left trying to come to terms with the loss of their loved one."Following a post-mortem examination, the woman’s death is not being treated as murder at this time.

"Our enquiries, however, are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death."

Ms McAdorey was a mother of two young children.

It is understood that neighbours heard a disturbance coming from the house yesterday afternoon and called police.

The PSNI said the woman's death was being treated as suspicious.

Ms McAdorey is from a family which is well known in the area.

Sinn Féin councillor Taylor McGrann said the locality has been deeply shocked by the news of her death.

"The whole community is in shock. Those who knew her, her friends and family group are absolutely heartbroken," Mr McGrann said.

"It's something that you don't expect to ever hear in your community so my deepest sympathies to them all."

The PSNI has appealed for information from the public.
