The funeral of an 81-year-old man who died earlier this week after being found with injuries outside his home in Tipperary town on 12 September has heard that he was "a one of a kind" person with a "heart of gold".
Timothy 'Teddy' Murnane died at Limerick University Hospital on Monday morning.
A 31-year-old man has appeared in court in charged in connection with the death of the former bus driver.
Sean Harding of Marian Terrace in Tipperary town is charged with three counts of burglary and one count of of assault causing harm to Mr Murnane.
It is alleged that the incidents occurred at the home of the pensioner on St Michael’s Avenue in the town.
His daughter in law Dominica Murnane told mourners at noon mass at St Michael’s Church in Tipperary that Mr Murnane loved his family unconditionally.
"Our family is absolutely heartbroken but we will hold on to the wonderful memories that we were so fortunate to share with such a special person to help us through this huge loss."
She spoke of how much Mr Murnane enjoyed family trips to Bunratty Castle in Co Clare and to Tramore, Co Waterford where he "enjoyed Dooley’s fish and chips and a good old apple tart with tea."
"We will remember him pulling change out of his pocket for an ice cream and sweets for a special treat for his grandchildren."
Ms Murnane said that barbecues with Mr Murnane were "full of love and laughters" with "jokes and good food" being the order of the day.
Ms Murnane also recalled his "radiant smile" and kind, loving nature.
Teddy Murnane was married to his wife Margaret for over 50 years and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Meanwhile, Archdeacon Eugene Everard said that the death of Teddy Murnane in tragic circumstances served as a stark reminder that "even inside our own gate our safety is no longer guaranteed."
"That is something that as a society and as a community we all need to reflect on a little bit more as well. Why is that happening more and more today?"
Fr Everard said that Mr Murnane and his wife Margaret had attended early morning mass on 7 September last which was the day that Italian teenager Carlos Acutis was declared a saint.
He asked that Mr Murnane enjoy the company of St Carlos and all the saints.
Mr Murnane is survived by his wife Margaret, their daughter Rachel, sons Patrick and Timothy, his seven grandchildren, sisters Eileen and Breda, daughters in law Bridget and Dominica, extended family and friends.
He was laid to rest at St Michael’s cemetery in Tipperary town.
