Man dies, another seriously injured after crash on N17

A man in his 20s has died after a collision between a car and a van on the Mayo/Galway border this morning.

It happened shortly after 8am on the N17 at Drum.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will take place at the morgue in University Hospital Galway (UHG).

The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was seriously injured in the crash and airlifted to UHG.

The road remains closed between Milltown and Ballindine for forensic examination.

Diversions are in place at the Milltown road roundabout in Tuam, Co Galway and in Ballindine, Co Mayo.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were traveling in the area between 7.45am and 8.15am.
