The new school term heralded a unique first for one school in the north west as four sets of twins started in junior infants at Four Masters National School in Kinlough, Co Leitrim.
Class teacher Mrs McGurrin says she is "having a little bit of trouble telling everybody apart" as three of the four sets are identical.
School Principal Siobhán Lee says they are "very excited" to welcome four sets of twins into junior infants, "the first time in the history of the school that they’ve welcomed so many twins".
Ms Lee said it is wonderful for the school and the parents. "It’s a happy place for the children and that’s the important thing."
"We have diverse school community. We have children from all over the world which makes our school, particularly special."
The four sets of twins, Abigail and Emilia Glancy-Ragina, Caoimhe and Aoife McGurran, Roisin and Katie Ward and Cillian and Nate McGurrin, told RTÉ News they are enjoying junior infants.
"We like the books, colouring, playing and learning Irish," Roisin Ward said.
Cillian and Nate McGurrin are nephews of the class teacher, Mrs Mc Gurrin. They told RTÉ News she is Mrs McGurrin at school, but Laura at home.
Four Masters National School in Kinlough was established in 1847 and it is one of the biggest primary schools in Co Leitrim.
