Firefighters are working to bring a major blaze at a waste disposal facility in Balbriggan in Dublin under control.

The fire broke out at the plant at around 6.30am, with reports of heavy smoke in the area.

Five fire engines and a water tanker are at the scene, with a spokesperson saying they expect the operation to continue for some time.

The spokesperson added that "good progress" is being made, but there is still smoke across the area.

People living close to the plant are being advised to stay indoors and their keep windows shut.
