Man, 40s, dies following quad bike incident in Cavan

A man, who died following an incident at a premises in Killeshandra, Co Cavan this morning, has been named locally.

Padraig (Paudie) O'Reilly of Bawn, Killeshandra was fatally injured in an incident that is understood to have involved a quad bike.

Mr O'Reilly ran an agricultural services business in the area.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified about the incident.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene this morning.

Mr O'Reilly, aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been removed to Cavan General Hospital and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

Gardaí have said that a file will be prepared for the coroner's court.

A junior football championship match between Killeshandra and Kildallan scheduled to throw-in this afternoon was postponed as a mark of respect.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor Áine Smith said the news of Mr O'Reilly's death was "extremely sad" and he was a "very popular young man".

She said: "Paudie comes from a very highly regarded family who have contributed so much to the local community.

"The thoughts and prayers of all of us in the wider Cavan area are with all his family and friends at this extremely sad and difficult time.
