A new DART station is set to begin operating this weekend, the first new station in 15 years.
Woodbrook Station is located between Shankill in south Dublin and Bray in Co Wicklow and is the 147th train station on the Irish Rail network.
Iarnród Éireann's Head of Communications Barry Kenny said the station's opening was a "positive delivery of public transport planning".
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, he said several new housing developments are being built in the area, which will be "directly served by this DART station".
"This is an example of delivering public transport. It is there as the communities develop and grow," he said.
Mr Kenny acknowledged that more capacity is needed on the DART infrastructure overall and said they are investing in doubling capacity in the Greater Dublin Area.
He said that the pattern has "changed somewhat" since the Covid-19 pandemic, and many people are now travelling earlier when there is more capacity on the line.
He said 185 new DART carriages have been ordered and there are plans to order more.
"That infrastructure investment is going to allow us to expand the capacity and frequency of services overall, so it's a continuing programme of investment," he added.
The first train from Woodbrook Station will depart for Malahide at 8.54am on Sunday.
