A fire which caused extensive damage at an old school building in Derry City overnight is being treated as deliberate, the PSNI has confirmed.

Police said they received reports that the former Foyle College building on the Duncreggan Road was set alight yesterday evening.

The area surrounding the building has now fully reopened to road users.

SDLP MLA Mark Durkan reported earlier that roads had been closed due to ongoing activity from firefighters at the scene.

Police appealed for anyone who has information regarding what happened to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1467 19/07/25.

A report can be submitted online using the non-emergency reporting form via the PSNI website or Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online, the PSNI said.
