Hundreds of people take part in Limerick Pride parade

Hundreds of people took part in the annual Limerick Pride parade and PrideFest this afternoon.

Glorious sunshine and high temperatures added to the good spirits and revelry amongst those marching.

The annual event is part of the Limerick LGBTQ Pride Festival which has been running from 7 July and concludes tomorrow.

One young woman shouted good humouredly as she passed by with pride flags adorning her head piece.

"It's an amazing day for our community and a celebration of ten years of gay marriage but there's still a lot that needs to be done. That's why we're out here today loud and proud," she said.

Following the parade, the Hunt Museum gardens hosted a family friendly event with live music, theatrical performances, drag, and face painting.

Festival organisers said the museum is a showcase of local and national LGBT culture to promote and celebrate diversity and equality.
