A woman has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the death of man in Newry, Co Down.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the man, aged in his 40s, sustained "a serious injury" in the Fisher Park area of the city at around 12.45pm.

Emergency services, police said, attended the scene where the man received medical treatment before being taken to hospital.

However, he subsequently died from his injuries.

The PSNI said it has launched an investigation into his death, which it described as "suspicious".

"A 50-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation and remains in police custody at this time," the PSNI said.

Further enquiries are ongoing and cordons are in place within the Fisher Park area.

The PSNI said it is "working to establish the circumstances surrounding the man's death".

It has appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist police to contact the them.
