A man has been arrested in Co Monaghan on suspicion of human trafficking offences.

As part of an ongoing investigation into human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation and forced criminality, gardaí arrested the man, aged in his 50s, this morning.

He is currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at a garda station in the north east of the country.

This morning's operation was carried out by gardaí attached to the Human Trafficking Investigation and Co-Ordination Unit at the Garda National Protective Services Bureau.

Gardaí have appealled to anyone who may be the victim of human trafficking for sexual exploitation to come forward.

They have said that anyone who has information related to human trafficking for sexual or labour exploitation is also encouraged to contact them.
